CONFEDERATE PEYTON ANDERSON MONUMENT REMOVED
Peyton Anderson was the first Confederate wounded in the Civil War.
He was shot May 27th, 1861 near what is now (2021) Fairfax Circle.
On 7 July 2020 a monument in Fairfax County, Virginia recognizing the first Confederate wounded in the Civil War was removed by a group of concerned citizens, including a relative of Peyton Anderson. The monument was moved to an undisclosed location to protect it. Unpunished vandalism of Confederate Markers was occurring in Fairfax County, Virginia.

Research indicates Peyton Anderson was wounded in an area under pavement on Blake Road near the intersection with Lee Highway (HWY 29).
The marker was moved from its original location thus the reference to 122 ft. was not accurate at the time of its removal. |

This location was 38.86428 -77.27963 on Route 29 (previously Lee Highway).
ANDERSON MONUMENT - 1ST - This was the first location of the monument before it was moved to widen the road. Intersection of Blake Ln. and Lee Hwy.
ANDERSON WOUNDED - Supposed location Anderson was wounded based of approximate location of monument when first placed. Under pavement on Blake Lane.
