Old Burke Train Stations
Around 1851 the Orange and Alexandria Railroad was built through Burke, Virginia. The railroad tracks running through Burke in 2017 are not always in the same place as the old Orange and Alexandria Railroad tracks. The railroad tracks were moved NE in about 1903 (http://braddockheritage.org/items/show/56).
When the RR tracks were moved a new Burke station was built. For reference purposes the orginal station will be called Station One and the one built after track relocation will be called Station Two. There may have been small or interim stations before Station One or Station Two was built. The 1937 aerial picture below indicates the two stations. A second picture indicates locations on a 2017 map of the same area. |
